Amanda Davis is a multi-talented force in the music industry. She hails from Memphis, TN, and has left her mark as an audio engineer, educator, production manager, singer, and musician. She earned her stripes at Chicago's Roosevelt University (2008; Bachelor of Arts in Music in Vocal Performance) and SAE Institute in Atlanta (2010; Music Recording and Production), embodying a passion for education, women's empowerment, and trailblazing.
Her journey began as the first female Lab Supervisor and Music Theory instructor at SAE Institute, where she honed her skills and ignited a commitment to fostering inclusivity. This dedication led her to global adventures as an Audio Technician for Carnival Cruise Lines before catching the attention of Emmy-winning artist Janelle Monáe in 2013. Handpicked as Monáe's Front of House Engineer, Amanda's career skyrocketed, mixing for iconic figures like Prince and Stevie Wonder in renowned venues worldwide.
In 2016, Canadian duo Tegan and Sara tapped Amanda as their FOH engineer, followed by her appointment as Production Manager on their acclaimed "The Con X" tour in 2017. During this time, Amanda collaborated with an impressive array of artists, from the legendary Olivia Newton-John to the trailblazing Nipsey Hussle, showcasing her versatility and expertise.
A busy 2018 and 2019 followed as Davis returned to her perch as Ms. Monáe’s FOH engineer for “The Dirty Computer Tour” while also taking the helm as the Production Manager and FOH engineer for chart-topping artist Ella Mai’s “The Debut Tour” and Tegan & Sara’s “Hey I’m Just Like You” Tour. While preparing for “The Dirty Computer Tour,” Amanda worked with non-profits, universities, and local organizations to create “Linecheck, Women in Live Production,” a mentoring program dedicated to young women who are pursuing a career in live sound mixing and production/tour management; focusing on professionalism practices and life as a tour crew member.
Returning to her roots in Memphis in 2020, Amanda's talents flourished at David Porter's 4U Recording studio, where she lent her recording, mixing, and co-production prowess to notable projects like Kortland Whalum's "A Love Letter" EP and TANGELA's "Splendid Mind" EP. Tegan and Sara also entrusted her with mixing duties for their special Record Store Day vinyl release, cementing her reputation as a sought-after studio engineer.
Amidst her studio endeavors, Amanda remains a fixture on the live circuit, mixing for Ralph Lauren's spring fashion premiere and an array of chart-topping artists, including Doja Cat, Jon Batiste, and Jazmine Sullivan. Her commitment to empowering women in the industry extends beyond her work, with appearances on platforms like Pensado's Place and guest lectures at Berklee College of Music Valencia, amplifying her impact and inspiring the next generation of audio professionals. As she continues to master her craft, Amanda Davis stands as a beacon of excellence, resilience, and innovation in the music world.
